This article provides instructions to create a tile package (map package) using the Nearmap ESRI Marketplace Item inside ArcGIS for Desktop. This allows you to create high resolution imagery in an offline format for use when you are not connected to the internet and need to complete field work with highly-accurate Nearmap imagery.
Creating a tile package
- Open ArcGIS 10.X and open the Nearmap US Vertical imagery tile.
- Zoom into the area for which you would like to create a tile package.
- In ArcMap, select Image Analysis from the Windows menu. The Image Analysis dialog is displayed.
- Select the Nearmap Vertical Imagery option and click the Clip button as shown below.
You should now have a new layer named Clip_Nearmap US Vertical Imagery. - Remove the Nearmap US Vertical Imagery item so that you only have the Clip item open in the viewer.
- Select File > Map Document Properties from ArcMap.
- Fill out the Title, Summary and Description. This is necessary for exporting the tile package.
- Click OK to save the ArcMap document.
- Select Create Map Tile Package from the Package section of the Arc Toolbox.
- Fill out the Input, Output, Minimum and Maximum Level of Detail (Zoom Levels 0-21) and the Extent for the Output Tile Package. Click OK.
The following message will be displayed when the tile package is created.
NOTE: This example was run on Pleasanton California, which is 24.28 mi². It took 3 hours and 42 minutes to run on a laptop. The compressed tile package was ~82 GB.
