You can compare location details by viewing its details from a previous survey, or by comparing details between two surveys.
Viewing historical data
As a default, any area of interest is displayed from the latest available capture. However, you can view historical captures with the Timeline. To do this:
- Zoom to your area of interest.
- Click the Timeline. A list of dates is displayed.
- Select a date to view historical imagery.
The capture from the date you selected is displayed. Nearmap imagery is high-resolution, and may take a few seconds to load.
Comparing surveys
MapBrowser allows you to compare imagery for a location across two different surveys, so that you can easily see the changes over time. It is only possible to view the same base layer type in both the left and right frames. You can compare surveys in one of the following ways:
Split View
Split view allows you to compare surveys by splitting the map into two and selecting different surveys on each side. From the View Switcher menu, select Split View. Then, select the required survey dates in both panels. You can use the slider to move the map to view the changes at the selected location between the selected dates.
Mirror View
Mirror view displays a side-by-side image of the location map selected in the left panel. From the View Switcher menu, select Mirror View. The panel on the right shows a side-by-side image of the map displayed on the left along with any annotations, markers, measurements, and AI layers you already have in the left or add to it. If you make changes to any of these in one pane, such as the color or the icon, it is reflected in the other pane. Elevation Profile will only display elevation information for one survey, it is not duplicated on each side and cannot be used to compare the height differences of two areas using Mirror View.
NOTE: Mirror view is only available for the Vertical and Panorama base layers.
Comparing AI attributes
Take advantage of split screen when viewing an AI layer where there is more than one capture date. Now that we have released Generation 2 AI data for some regions, you will be able to bring both Generation 1 and Generation 2 captures into view on either side of the split screen. It can be a handy way to perform visual change detection. By swiping the slide back and forth with the background darkened, you see the colored blobs appear and disappear where change has occurred.
