Importing JPG/JGW files into QGIS Dufour 2.0.1
These instructions apply to QGIS A Coruña 3.10 and describe how to load JPG and JGW files exported from Nearmap without losing the georeferencing information.
- Open QGIS Desktop.
- Select Open Data Source Manager.
- Click on Raster.
- Press the Ellipsis button and locate the .JPG file you downloaded from MapBrowser. Ensure
that there is a saved .JGW file in the same folder with the same name, but do not select it. It will be read automatically when you load the .JPG. If there is no .JGW file, download your image again from Nearmap imagery and ensure that Georeference File is checked. Then press Open.

- Press Add then click Close to shut the window.
Your new raster image appears in the Layers panel.
NOTE: If your downloaded image is in a different projection to the base map projection you need to change the Coordinate Reference System (CRS). Follow steps 6 through 8. - Right-click your new raster image in the Layers panel and select Set CRS > Set Layer CRS...
- The Coordinate Reference System Selector opens.
You now need to set the coordinate system used to properly interpret the .JGW file.
In the Filter box, type the EPSG code of the map projection that you downloaded. If you did not select a projection, type 3857 but do not press the Enter button.
- Select your desired projection. Again, if you had not set a projection when you downloaded the image from Nearmap, select WGS 84 / Pseudo Mercator and click OK.
- If the map is already in your desired projection, then at this point you are done.
Your image should now be loaded and properly georeferenced.
