Marketplace Overview
The Nearmap Vertical Marketplace item is a versatile way to integrate Nearmap imagery into your ESRI environment.
NOTE: This tool was not created by Nearmap. It is built, updated, and supported by ESRI. If you experience issues with this tool, or would like to see improvements, please contact ESRI Support or your ESRI Representative.
The Marketplace item allows you to view the entire Nearmap Vertical capture footprint, but you may want to see imagery only for your specific location. Nearmap WMS 2.0 is a popular option for this; however, this is also possible via the Marketplace item.
This article explains how to view Nearmap historical imagery in ArcGIS Pro and use the "acquisition date" within the properties of the imagery layer.
Step 1 - Add Data
The first step is to add imagery from ArcGIS Online. You must be signed into your account that is connected to your AGOL Organization, and that has been provisioned with access to Nearmap imagery via the ESRI Marketplace.
You can do this by opening the Catalog pane in ArcGIS Pro, and clicking Portal. You may find your Nearmap imagery in one of the three tabs: My Content, My Groups, or All Portal depending on how your account is structured.
Then simply click the layer entitled Nearmap US Vertical Imagery, or Nearmap AU Vertical Imagery, and drag it into the Map, or right-click and add it to a map. This should now display the imagery.
Now zoom into your area of interest.
Step 2 - Configure the Time Field
Right click on the Nearmap layer, select Properties, and adjust the properties in the Time dialog:
There is no need to Calculate the time fields, they should update automatically.
Step 3 - Adjust the Time Slider
Once you configure the Time field, you will see a time slider in ArcGIS Pro. You can adjust this time slider to change the dates of the imagery:
In order to go back through dates, you need to drag the timeline from RIGHT to LEFT:
When you move the bar slightly the imagery might not change. This is because by default the timeline does not jump to specific capture dates, but rather slides at a prefixed interval. Therefore, moving the timeline one month for example, may not result in a new dataset loading.
The timeline also does not display the current date of the imagery. The timeline slider gives you a rough approximation of the date, but does not tell you specifically what is in the “nmd” (date) field.
You can find the date of the survey by using the Explore button:
You can see that the time slider says 9/18/2015, but the imagery being displayed is from March 12, 2015. If you drag the time slider past March 12, 2015, it will display the next oldest imagery before that date. Even if you select March 11, 2015, it will display the capture prior to that data. You can see this in the next example:
In this example we have selected March 1, 2015 on the time slider, but the imagery being displayed is from November 20, 2014.
Filtering dates in ArcGIS Pro
To filter dates in ArcGIS Pro, you need to create a definition query using the following steps.
- Bring in Nearmap US/AU/CA/NZ Vertical imagery from the ESRI Marketplace as a new imagery layer.
- Navigate to the imagery layer’s Properties. To do this for US imagery, select Properties from the Nearmap US Vertical Imagery menu.
- Select Definition Query. Click New definition query.
- Create a definition query on the acquisitiondate field, which will allow you to filter in the desired imagery within a set time frame. You can use specific dates or specify a date range.
