Overview
Gen 3 uses the same raster AI Layers as Gen 2, but with a fundamentally new vectorization process that we call "Open World". At the most basic level, Open World vectorizes all features, regardless of parcel boundaries, allowing us to remove a number of caveats around large or missing parcels, buildings being cut to parcel boundaries, and regional variation in parcel quality.

Version | Updates | New AI Packs | Enhanced AI Packs |

2.3 | Resolves an issue whereby the areaSqm, areaSqft, and ratio fields of the Roof Material, Roof Types, and Roof Tree Overhang attributes were calculated inaccurately. The issue affects all winter_sunrise releases from gen3-winter_sunrise-1.3 onwards. |
|
|
2.2 | - New fields "extentMinX " , " extentMaxX " , " extentMinY " , " extentMaxY" added to the top level of the response. These represent the approximate extent of the AOI (either user supplied, or the result of geocoding).
- New fields " clippedAreaSqm " and " clippedAreaSqft " added to the top level of each feature in the response. These represent the area of each feature as if it were cropped to match the AOI.
This upgrades all previously processed data from gen3-winter_sunrise-2.1 to gen3-winter_sunrise-2.2 . |
|
|
2.1 | - New fields "clippedAreaSqm" and "clippedAreaSqft" added to all feature classes behind AI Feature API. "clippedArea..." is the area of intersection between the provided Query AOI (usually a property boundary), and the feature. This makes it possible to look up the area of an object such as a building that falls within the AOI, and then calculate the proportion falling within or outside the AOI. This is important for determining which features to include and exclude.
- This pairs with the existing "unclippedArea..." attribute that gives the area of the entire feature independent of the Query AOI.

|
|
2.0 | With this release, a response includes all children of any feature that intersects with the query AOI, whether each child feature intersects with the parcel boundary. Previously, response returned only features (children and parents) that intersected with the parcel. This upgrades all previously processed data from gen3-winter_sunrise-1.x to gen3-winter_sunrise-2.0 |
|
|
1.3 | Adds new "unclippedAreaSqm" and "unclippedAreaSqft" fields to connected classes behind AI Feature API (vegetation and surfaces AI Packs). "areaSqm" and "areaSqft" will continue to give the area of the feature returned from the API. The "unclippedArea" includes the full area of the connected feature, which may be very large. This is to make it easier to determine if e.g. a property borders on a small stand of trees vs a large forest, or a pond vs an ocean. |

Coverage
Initial coverage is identical to Gen 2 data - approximately the Spring 2020 season in the USA, and latest data as at June 2020 in Australia. Additional coverage may be published from time to time at customer request.
New AI Packs
Gen 3 introduces three new AI Packs.
- Building Peak Height (ground to peak) attached to building footprints.
- Story Count (1, 2, 3+) with confidence scores attached as metadata to building footprints.
Three vectorized vegetation layers, from very low vegetation to shrubs and trees. These AI Layers have been included for visualization in MapBrowser:
A variety of ground surfaces, both natural and man-made. Vectorized polygons of all included AI Layers. These AI Layers have been included for visualization in MapBrowser:

Building Footprints | A new vectorization algorithm and benefits substantially from vectorizing prior to use of property parcels. See page for more details. With these enhancements, we now consider our building footprints fit for purpose in Commercial and Industrial areas (outside complex downtown/CBD zones), so have removed the "Residential" tag on the Building Footprint and Roof Characteristics AI Packs. |
Roof Characteristics | New "Dutch Gable" roof type, and the dominant pitch in degrees calculated from our 3D mesh. AI DataDominant Roof pitch (degrees) attached to roof features. Dutch Gable added as a roof type AI LayersDutch Gable |
