Learn how to draw your own unique property measurements to:
Measure distance to brush or coastline to assess natural hazard risk.
Measure distance between buildings to understand potential fire risk.
Measure roof or damaged areas to estimate the cost of repair or replacement.
Accessing and Drawing using the Measurement Tool
From your property profile, on the lower right-hand side, you will see an icon with a Ruler and Pencil, click on that icon to open the Measurement Tool.
After clicking on the Measurement Tool, you will see 3 icons appear, if you hover over the icons you will be able to see the name of the tool appear.
There's a Draw Polyline tool, a Draw Polygon tool and an Edit Polygons Tool.
Draw Polyline
Select this tool to draw a line or series of connected lines and obtain the measurement of that line you drew
Click the "Draw Polyline" tool
Next, click where you would like to begin measuring
Move your cursor to where you would like your next measuring point to be.
Click once to create the next polygon and then keep moving your cursor to continue measuring or click that Polygon you just created a 2nd time to end and obtain the measurement
Draw Polygon
This tool allows you to draw a Polygon and it will give you the measurement of that Polygon
Click the "Draw Polygon" tool
Next, click once where you would like to begin measuring.
Move your cursor to where you would like to create the next polygon and click once, then keep moving your cursor to the next location where you would like to create the next polygons and so on until you get the desired shape.
- To close your shape, make sure to click back on the first polygon you created, this will close the loop and save the shape, and it will then give you a measurement.
Edit Polygons
This tool allows you to edit the polygon you drew but only while you're creating that measurement. If you close the tool and then try to edit the measurement at a later time you will be unable to, you will need to delete the measurement and draw a new one.
Click the "Edit Polygon" tool
Next, click any polygon to move it to where you need it to be, or click one of the grayed out polygons to activate it and extend the measurement as in the example below.
Finish editing your shape by adding, moving or removing polygons as needed.
- To close your editing, click the "Edit Polygon" tool again or close the tool by clicking the "X" icon.
Organizing your Measurements
To help you organize your measurements, you can give your measurement a name under 'New Measurement'
and add a note or comment describing the measurement under 'Description'.
You can also select different colors to draw by selecting the colored circle next to the measurement or change the measurement from Square Feet to Square Meters. These details can be saved for your reference the next time you open this property profile.
Changing your Measurement from Sq Ft to Meters
AFTER you save the Polyline or Polygon, you will see the saved measurement appear in the Left hand panel.
Once it appears in the left hand panel you can then change the measurement from Sq Ft to Meters by clicking on the Measurement Box. Clicking on it will make the Dropdown appear.
