We've got all the angles! At Nearmap, we view the world in many ways, from top-down to 3D to colorized raster layers, and lots of things in between. Your subscription might include just one type of content, or many. Whatever the case, here’s a quick overview of the different types of Nearmap content and how you can work with them.
Coverage
Nearmap regularly surveys urban and regional areas across four countries, capturing imagery leaf-on and leaf-off, typically multiple times per year. All imagery is timestamped and available within days of capture via the cloud.
- Australia: Captured since November 2007 (Perth), late 2009 (Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane)
- United States: Captured since 2014
- New Zealand and Canada: Ongoing regular capture programs
Use the interactive Coverage map to check the capture history and status of specific locations.
Imagery accuracy
Nearmap's current camera system captures imagery at a Ground Sample Distance (GSD) of 4.5cm (1.77"). LEARN MORE
Imagery is georeferenced using GPS coordinates refined with Precise Point Positioning (PPP) to the ITRF2014 datum. Nearmap provides plate-fixed projections (GDA94/GDA2020 for Australia; NAD83 for the US) to eliminate misalignment.
Coordinate systems
Nearmap supports a range of coordinate systems for integrations. Plate-fixed projections (NAD83 or GDA94/GDA2020) are recommended to ensure consistency across captures taken at different dates. LEARN MORE
Nearmap Vertical
Nearmap Vertical is our flagship high resolution orthogonal imagery. It provides you with a top-down view of the world, stitched together into a seamless map to allow you to easily pan and zoom around your area of interest. With industry-leading resolution 5.5cm (or 2.2"), Nearmap Vertical lets you perform detailed analysis of your project area or property features, including accurate measurements.
You can use Nearmap Vertical in MapBrowser or work with it inside popular third-party GIS and CAD platforms. You can also integrate Nearmap Vertical with your own bespoke solutions using our range of APIs. LEARN MORE
Nearmap Panorama
Nearmap Panorama imagery offers a 45-degree angle view of a location and is great for prospecting and canvassing across a large area. Like Nearmap Vertical, Panorama lets you continuously pan around and zoom in to get a contextual understanding of your area of interest. Panorama imagery can be viewed from each cardinal direction in MapBrowser using the compass tool. While Panorama is viewable in MapBrowser, use Nearmap Oblique to derive accurate measurements. Nearmap also provides access to its Vertical and Panorama Imagery via the Tile API.
Nearmap Oblique
Nearmap Oblique is a premium content consisting of individual original photos, taken at 45 degrees. It gives you additional perspective to view the sides of a building, for example, which may be obstructed in a top-down image. Unlike Nearmap Panorama, Nearmap Oblique is great for measuring the heights and widths of objects and buildings, as well as slopes and areas of roofs.
You can access Nearmap Oblique from MapBrowser and also through the Esri Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS. LEARN MORE
Nearmap 3D
Nearmap 3D is a suite of advanced content types that adds new dimensions to your virtual site inspections, feasibility studies, and design workflows. From architectural visualization and scenario modelling to wireless network planning — Nearmap 3D provides you with instant access to frequently updated location content in various formats:
- Textured Mesh (.slpk, .3mx, .obj. .fbx. cesium 3D tiles)
- Point Cloud (.las, .laz)
- True Ortho (GeoTIFF, .jpeg)
- Digital Surface Model (DSM) (GeoTIFF, .ASCII)
- Digital Terrain Model (DTM) or Digital Elevation Model (DEM) (GeoTIFF, .ASCII)
Our photorealistic Textured Mesh can be streamed directly in MapBrowser with 3D Viewer. Alternatively, all Nearmap 3D content can be exported in a few clicks from MapBrowser for detailed analysis and design in leading GIS and design platforms. No APIs are available at this stage for Nearmap 3D. LEARN MORE
Nearmap AI
Nearmap AI is the latest suite of property insight layers available to organizations that subscribe to the relevant Nearmap AI packs. Derived from our high resolution imagery, Nearmap AI enables you to pull out the data you need to make critical business decisions. Paired with our rich historic catalogue of Nearmap Vertical imagery, you can verify data against the source imagery while automating insight-gathering at scale to save hours in your day.
Nearmap AI Packs cover a broad range of features across the built and natural environment. LEARN MORE
Nearmap AI can be viewed as AI Layers in MapBrowser, or exported as datasets for integration with your in-house applications and workflows. LEARN MORE
Nearmap NIR (Near Infrared)
Nearmap NIR is Nearmap's 4-band near-infrared aerial imagery product, capturing data across the red, green, blue, and near-infrared (NIR) spectrum simultaneously. NIR data is essential for vegetation health analysis, land classification, water body delineation, and a range of agricultural, environmental, and infrastructure applications.
NIR imagery is delivered as raw 4-band GeoTIFF files ready for processing in standard GIS platforms such as ArcGIS Pro or Global Mapper. Common derived products include the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and other spectral indices. LEARN MORE
Nearmap Roof Products
Roof Spotlight Index (RSI)
The Roof Spotlight Index (RSI) is Nearmap's AI-driven roof condition score for properties. It aggregates multiple AI-detected roof condition signals into a single normalized score between 0 and 100, where a lower score indicates a higher likelihood of a roof in need of attention or replacement. RSI enables portfolio-scale screening without manual inspection: identify high-risk properties, prioritize inspections, and segment portfolios by roof condition risk. LEARN MORE
Roof Condition Confidence Stats (RCCS)
Roof Condition Confidence Stats (RCCS) is a companion product to RSI that provides a statistical confidence measure for the RSI score of a given property. RCCS gives underwriters and data consumers additional context about how reliable the RSI score is, based on factors like imagery quality, detection coverage, and model confidence. LEARN MORE
Roof Age
Nearmap Roof Age uses AI models trained on historical Nearmap imagery to estimate the age specifically the approximate installation date of a residential or commercial roof. By analyzing visual patterns associated with roof material aging and comparison across the historical imagery archive, Roof Age provides a data-driven estimate without requiring a physical inspection. Roof Age can be accessed via Betterview, the Roof Age API and the Betterview APIs. LEARN MORE
Roof Measurements an Exterior Measurements
Nearmap Roof Measurements provides AI-derived measurements of roof facets, including area, pitch, eave length, ridge length, and valley length for residential properties. Exterior Measurements extends this to include additional property dimensions such as wall and window areas. LEARN MORE
