Authentication
To consume Nearmap imagery via WMS, you must first create a Simple or Custom WMS Service, which generates a URL for you to copy to your computer's clipboard. Once you have done that, you can conveniently paste it into your application as required.

Choose a Projection
- Choose a projection to use in Global Mapper 16. This must be one of the available projections in Nearmap for the area. You can view the available projections in MapBrowser by going to the location of interest in MapBrowser, selecting the Export tool and then selecting Georeferenced image as the Export type. You can then select a projection from the dropdown.
Optionally, choose a lat/long at the center of your area of interest - for example, 32.943573,-96.979408. You can instruct Global Mapper to retrieve only the imagery around this point.
Setting the Projection to Use
- Start Global Mapper.
- Click Display Settings/Projection.
- Click Init from EPSG.
- Enter the EPSG code for your projection of interest (for example, 26912).
Click OK, click Apply, then click OK.
Connecting to the Nearmap WMS Feed
- Click Download free maps/Imagery from online sources.
- Click Add new source.
- Select WMS, and click OK.
- At Server URL, paste the WMS URL your copied to your clipboard earlier.
- Click Get list of available layers.
- Expand nodes until you can see the area you are interested in. For example, expand United States of America > Texas and select Texas Latest.
- For faster downloads and smaller file sizes, set Image Format to image/jpeg.
- At Projection to use, select your local projection. In this example, we'll use EPSG:26912.
- Click OK.
- Click Add Category, enter "Nearmap", and click OK.
- At Select Area to Download, optionally, define your area of interest. For example, you could enter: Within 10km of 32.943573,-96.979408.
- Click Connect.
Now you can zoom and pan to display imagery within the boundaries you chose. The image data is loaded on-request as you zoom and pan.
