In very simple terms, geospatial boundaries can be defined as extents that delineate areas.
Boundary types
In the context of the ImpactResponse System, the following types of geospatial boundaries are available. These are dependent on the event type.
- Event boundary: The entire area affected by the event that identifies the first group of properties within the boundary.
- Central path: Identifies the actual and/or predicted path of the event. Note that this is not available for wildfires and tornadoes as it's not possible to predict the path for these events.
- Wind speed: Captures the actual and predicted path of a storm event.
- Storm surge: If available, this indicates the level of flooding at each property.
Viewing geospatial boundaries
To view geospatial boundaries in the ImpactResponse System, you must be in the Map view. When you launch the ImpactResponse System, the event landing page is displayed with a list of all affected properties. The first property in the list is selected by default, and its imagery is displayed in the right.
Use the x button to close this view and switch to the Map View.
On the map, click Boundary and select the <event> Boundary <event options> checkbox. Note that this option will be different based on the event type. For example, wind events typically have options for different wind speeds so that you can view the boundary for a particular speed range.
The number of properties within each geospatial boundary is also displayed with an option to filter by one or more geospatial boundaries. More about filters here.
