Working with post-catastrophe imagery
Nearmap Post-Catastrophe surveys are captured as high-resolution Vertical imagery, which means post-catastrophe imagery can be viewed via the same methods as standard Nearmap Vertical content. This includes:
- MapBrowser
- Nearmap Tile API
- ArcGIS Online using WMS 2.0 or Tile API
Refer to the Nearmap Vertical page for more information, including accuracy specifications.
MapBrowser
Identifying post-catastrophe surveys
If you have a current ImpactResponse Imagery product included with your subscription, you will be notified via email when a new event has been captured and published in a survey . Post - catastrophe surveys can be differentiated from regular captures by the presence of an icon next to the survey date. The icon represents the type of catastrophic event, and is displayed on the map as well along with a boundary around the affected area. As soon as a new capture of the survey area is available, it is made available in MapBrowser allowing you to compare the changes in the affected area over time.
Comparing surveys
Use the Split-View tool to compare imagery from two different survey dates. Note that some catastrophic events may occur outside of our standard coverage area, in which case, pre-catastrophe imagery will not be available.
Measuring and annotating imagery
All post-catastrophe surveys are orthogonal (Vertical) imagery, so you can measure, make annotations, and take a snapshot of the imagery the same way you would with Vertical imagery.
Nearmap Tile API
Identifying post-catastrophe surveys
Post-catastrophe surveys captured after June 2020 in US and September 2021 in Australia are tagged, and indicate the type of event type the survey represents - hurricane, wildfire, flood, etc. The survey tags are exposed in the Coverage API and Tile API.
You can also use the Nearmap Tile API to view post-catastrophe imagery within applications such as QGIS. LEARN MORE
Comparing surveys
If you are using the Tile API to view imagery in a third-party application such as QGIS, it is possible to bring in two different survey dates to compare. LEARN MORE
ArcGIS Online
You can use the Nearmap Web Map Service (WMS) custom URL in ArcGIS Online to load Nearmap imagery to view post-catastrophe imagery.
The Custom WMS URL that we provide looks like this:
https://api.nearmap.com/wms/v1/places/<PLACES_ID>/apikey/<APIKEY>
NOTE: If you are currently accessing Nearmap imagery using ArcGIS Marketplace item as documented here, you will not be able to access post-catastrophe imagery. However, you can use Nearmap WMS 2.0 or Tile APIs to display post-cat imagery in ArcGIS Online webmaps as described below. Please use WMS 2.0 to view post-catastrophe content in desktop GIS applications such as ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, and QGIS. LEARN MORE
