Overview
AutoDesk 3ds® Max is a 3D modelling software used to model, animate, and render detailed 3D characters, photorealistic designs, and complex scenes for film and TV, games, and design visualization projects. Nearmap Textured Mesh data can be used within AutoDesk 3ds Max to:
- Render textures
- Edit the geometry
- Design animations
Nearmap provides two types of Textured Mesh files, FBX and OBJ files, which you can import into AutoDesk 3ds Max. Once the imagery is imported, and scaled as required, you can use the powerful design and editing tools in AutoDesk 3ds Max for your projects.
Exporting from MapBrowser
Before you can import Nearmap Textured Mesh files into 3ds Max, you must export this data from MapBrowser.
Only FBX and OBJ files exported from MapBrowser can be imported into AutoDesk 3ds Max.
Importing into AutoDesk 3ds Max
FBX files
- Start AutoDesk 3ds Max.
- From the File, Open menu, select the desired .fbx file. The FBX Import panel is displayed.
Note Files of type is default to 3ds Max. Change this to All files. - Check that the units are aligned with the units of the downloaded content.
- Click OK to confirm. The mesh will be brought into your 3ds project space.
- Within the Command Panel, select Utilites, Measure to confirm the dimensions of the model are correctly scaled.
OBJ files
The steps for importing OBJ files are the same as those for FBX files except that you need to select an OBJ file to import.
