Delegated Authentication allows your users to authenticate against your organization's Identity Access Management solution instead of using Nearmap credentials. Users will be able to use the same credentials they use to access applications within your organization. With the optional Just-In-Time (JIT) Provisioning, new users can be automatically provisioned to access Nearmap applications if enabled.
Work with your Nearmap Account Manager to get your Delegated Authentication product added to your account before you start. Once that is done, follow the instructions in Set Up a Connection to create a Delegated Authentication connection.
NOTE: Nearmap Delegated Authentication is not an SSO solution; you must start the login process from Nearmap MapBrowser or MyAccount, not from your organization's IdP.
Benefits of Delegated Authentication
- Password policies, such as complexity and frequency of change, are managed by your organization.
- Users will have one less password to remember.
- Your account will be more secure as users are less likely to share their username and password.
- New starters can be automatically provisioned on first login, reducing the need for you to invite new users to your account. This is available if you select Just-in-Time Provisioning.
Delegated Authentication subscription
Delegated Authentication is a subscription-based feature.
- If you renewed your subscription before August 2025, you need to have purchased Delegated Authentication as an add-on.
- If you renewed after August 2025 and are on the new subscription model:
- Delegated Authentication is included in Commercial/Government subscriptions with the Pro tier or higher.
- you need the Enterprise Integration add-on in Insurance subscriptions to enable Delegated Authentication.
If your subscription doesn't have Delegated Authentication as detailed above, you will not see the Authentication tab under the Account tab for setting up Delegated Authentication.
