You can view Nearmap 3D content in Cesium format in MapBrowser. This MapBrowser functionality is sometimes referred to as 3D Viewer. For more details and technical information, see 3D Products.
Viewing 3D Content
To view 3D, you need a specific Nearmap subscription. Contact your Nearmap Account manager to enable this option.
Once you have a 3D subscription, select 3D from the Base Layer picker. Viewing and measuring 3D content do not count towards your standard imagery data allowance.
Each 3D capture is made up of multiple surveys, flown at different dates. The capture name at the bottom of the screen consists of the region of the capture and the month and year of the first survey in the capture. The entire scene could be made up of photos taken over one to three months.
NOTE: The geometry of the 3D scene is constructed using a 15cm ground sampling distance. Textures are applied to the geometry using our standard images with a resolution of less than 7.5cm. The ability to resolve objects is a function of size, shape and surface reflectivity. We expect to be able to resolve objects that are greater than 40cm in size, are not long and thin and are not highly reflective.
3D Content ConstraintsBecause of the unique nature of capturing 3D imagery, there are a few constraints:
- Photogrammetric 3D relies on surface reflectivity to resolve objects. Highly reflective surfaces and areas of dark shadow will result in holes and distortion.
- The viewable reconstructed 3D scene is actually a continuous surface. Individual objects are not extracted, so some blending or smooth interpolated surface between objects is visible where you would normally expect to see hard angles.
- Urban canyons and narrow alleyways usually do not receive much sunlight, which makes it very difficult to capture the detail at street level between tall buildings. As a result our 3D scene may lack detail at these locations.
