ArcGIS Pro is an Esri desktop application that you can use to easily display Nearmap's 3D textured mesh imagery created in Esri supported format.
The 3D imagery is delivered in geo-referenced Scene Layer Packages (.slpk files).
NOTE: ArcGIS Pro is an Esri product, and as such any support you may need should be directed to Esri.
This guide is intended to give you general instructions on how to view Nearmap 3D imagery in ArcGIS Pro, and might not reflect the latest version of the application.
Tested version at time of document release: ArcGIS Pro Version 2.1.0.
Viewing Nearmap 3D Imagery
- Open ArcGIS Pro and create a new Project. You can create a Global_Scene or a Local_Scene project.
We recommend you create a Local_Scene project, because it gives users more controls over other layers that are brought into the same environment.
The basemap will come up.
- Insert a New Scene by selecting Insert, New Map, New Scene.
- This creates a new scene (3D environment) in a new tab.
- Add the 3D content by selecting Map, Add Data, Add data to the map, then select the local .slpk file you wish to view.
- You can zoom in, tilt, and pan using your mouse.
In the bottom right hand corner of the screen there is a circle that indicates whether the imagery is still loading.
Interactive Analysis
Viewshed Analysis
Viewshed analysis determines visibility to or from a particular cell. It is commonly used to locate communication towers or determining the view from a road.
- Open Viewshed Analysis by selecting Analysis, Interactive Analysis, Viewshed (Interactive Analysis can be found in the 3D Exploratory Analysis section).
: - You can adjust the viewshed dimensions that are displayed.
Select Interactive Placement as the creation method, then click on a rooftop and you will see the Viewshed Analysis for that location.
The red represents the areas that cannot be seen from the selected location.
Use the Clear All button to clear what you have created.
Line of Sight Analysis
Line of sight describes the unimpeded view or access from one point to another point across a terrain or surface. It can be used to decide where to put cellular stations, or to determine where to place cameras when capturing a marathon.
- Open Line of Sight by selecting Analysis, Interactive Analysis, Line of Sight (Interactive Analysis can be found in the 3D Exploratory Analysis section).
- You can adjust the Line of Sight dimensions that are displayed.
Select Observer From Camera as the creation method, then position the camera and select the target in order to see if there is a line of sight.
Publishing 3D Content to ArcGIS Online
ArcGIS Pro provides access to Geoprocessing tools that allow users to publish Scene Packages across the enterprise, including ArcGIS Online.
- Open the Share Package tool by selecting Analysis, Tools, then search for Share Package in the Geoprocessing pane.
- Fill in the Parameters in the Share Package tool.
- Input Package - Select the .slpk file you would like to publish in ArcGIS Online.
- Summary - The summary is displayed in the item information of the package on ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise. E.g. Atlanta Demo.
- Tags - Tags used to describe and identify the package. Individual tags are separated using either a comma or semicolon. E.g. 3D, atlanta, demo.
- Credits - This is generally the name of the organization that is given credit for authoring and providing the content for the package. E.g. Nearmap Inc.
- Make sure you are logged in to ArcGIS Pro - you must be logged in and connected to ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise before you can share a package with this tool.
Click Run. Esri then uploads the package to your organization in ArcGIS Online. The progress bar will indicate when the package is uploaded - it may take some time, depending on the size of the file.
When you log in to ArcGIS Online you will see the list of packages in Content, My Organization.
