What is Ponding?
Signs of standing/pooling of water on the roof leading to deterioration.
Short Term Implications
Pooling of water on roof signals poor drainage conditions on flat roofs. Short term consequences of ponding are usually minimal, nonetheless it should be addressed before the problem progresses.
Long Term Implications
If left unchecked, ponding will deteriorate the roof covering leading to leaks that damage the underlying roof assembly and possibly the interior. Excessively large instances of ponding can be a threat to the structural integrity of the roof, especially if coupled with a clogged drain. Such circumstances can lead to the collapse of the roof.
