What are Missing Shingles?
One of the more self-explanatory classifications, missing shingles result when shingles come out of place. It is worth noting that this can include instances where individual tabs of shingles are missing (typical shingles have three tabs or an aesthetic layering of multiple tabs).
What is NOT Missing Shingles?
Damaged clay tiles
Damaged wood shakes
Tarps covering areas where shingles MAY be missing
Structural damage (yes, shingles may also be missing, but the more significant anomaly of structural damage is the key here)
Short Term Implications
While additional roof components lie below shingles, the shingles themselves are the primary waterproofing component of a shingle roof. Loss of shingles will allow for water to penetrate the roof and cause further damages.
Long Term Implications
If left untreated, the absence of shingles will lead to deterioration and corrosion of building components which can compound the costs of repairs significantly. Such deterioration of other components could lead to the roof being more susceptible to even structural damage in a major wind storm event.
