With MapBrowser, you can export your AOI in MapBrowser as a MrSID file.
IMPORTANT: MrSID is available only to US customers.
A MrSID export is added to a processing queue and depending on the size of your export, it may take some time to process your export. You will receive an email notification when your export is ready.
IMPORTANT: You can initiate only one MrSID export at a time.
To export in MrSID format:
- Start the export
- Select the Export type as Advanced.
- Select the Content type as 2D (Tiled).
- Complete the steps described below.
Selecting the area to export
Select the area you would like to export and re-position it if it's required. This is your Area of Interest or AOI. You can upload a GeoJSON file of your AOI.
Alternatively, select a point on the map to start defining your area. Draw a polygon for your AOI by clicking at different points that indicate the boundary of your area.
Selecting the projection
Select the relevant projection Projection for your export.
Projection is an important setting. When the spherical Earth is "projected" onto a flat map surface, distortions occur. Like Google, Bing, and MapQuest maps, we use Spherical Mercator (EPSG:3857, also known as EPSG:3785 and EPSG:900913) in MapBrowser. This maps the sphere to a convenient rectangle, but has large distortions away from the Equator.
NOTE: When saving images, we recommend using an available local map projection so that scale and measurements are accurate.
Selecting the resolution and format
Select a resolution: choose the resolution you want for the exported image. It is recommended that you select a higher resolution if your image is large.
Select the export Format as MrSID. The estimated file size is displayed in the Summary section.
NOTE: If you save in the Spherical Mercator projection, meters/pixel is only a rough estimate due to that projection's inherent distortions.
Selecting ImpactResponse surveys
If you have a subscription for Nearmap ImpactResponse and would like to export imagery from corresponding surveys, select Add ImpactResponse Surveys.
Usually, the exported imagery comprises multiple surveys that are layered in a way that the most recent survey is on the top.
If you select a post-catastrophe survey in MapBrowser, this survey will be at the top and other surveys will be used to fill in any gaps in the AOI if needed.
Viewing the export summary
Once you select all the options, you can review the export.
Click REVIEW EXPORT to view more details of your export. The Export Summary dialog is displayed where you can specify a name for the export. This name will be displayed in the DOWNLOADS window. You'll see the following information:
- Projection
- Content type
- Estimated export size, which is the total area of export in sq km
An additional message indicating that only one MrSID export is possible at a time is displayed. Review the message carefully.
Click REQUEST EXPORT to add your export to the processing queue.
Downloading the files
Once you request your export, your export will be added to a processing queue. You will be notified when your export is ready after which you can download it from the DOWNLOADS window.
NOTE: Downloads will be available for a maximum of 60 days from the date on which they were generated.
