This article describes how to load Nearmap 3D data into Civil 3D to create contours. This allows you to:
- View the data as a surface
- Provides a working terrain model

Loading Nearmap 3D Data to Create Contours
To load Nearmap 3D Data to generate contours:
- Identify the Area of Interest (AOI) in MapBrowser.
- Download DSM or DTM data using the Export tool.
- In Civil 3D, select the coordinate system to use. To do this:
- On the Settings tab, right-click on the drawing name.
- Click Edit Drawing Settings.
- From the Available coordinate systems list, select the required system for the drawing.
- Click OK.
- Create a surface in Civil 3D from the downloaded 3D data. To do this:
- In the Prospector tab, right-click Surfaces and select Create Surface.
- For Type, select ‘TIN surface’.
- Name your Surface layer accordingly.
- Click ‘…’ in the style tab to customize contour preferences.
- Once done, click OK.
You should now see the hierarchy of the surface that you created in the Surfaces node.
- Click Definition to expand the node.
- Right-click DEM Files and select Add to bring in the DTM/DEM data. The Add DEM File dialogue is displayed.
- Select the DEM geoTIFF file that was downloaded earlier from MapBrowser.
- Click OK.
- Zoom in to the layer by right clicking the surface in the Prospector tab, and selecting Zoom to layer.
You will see the contours generated here as a surface object. Select the object and explode once to create a block reference, and twice for the contours to display as polylines.
