I have been notified I have reached 100% of my data usage for the month.

Does anyone have a good description of what constitutes data usage and how to communicate that to multiple staff members of different experience levels who are using the program? As an example what does below 14 tiles mean?

If I wanted to give a presentation to my office is there any material available showing best practices to avoid excessive data usage?

    Hi @Lou_6056,

    Thanks for reaching out.

Usage can be consumed differently based on how you are accessing our content. It sounds like you are primarily using our MapBrowser. Please let me know if you use any of our APIs and I can provide more context.

This page will break down usage for you.

Here are some tips that will help explain to your team:

    • You are only charged usage when you download it.
      • Keeping the map stationary on a location will not continue to charge you usage.
    • We only charge usage when you download Nearmap imagery.
      • We do not charge you for the Here maps street layer, cadastre layer or AI layers that you display.
      • We will charge you usage for the Nearmap imagery if you overlay one of these layers above Nearmap imagery.
      • We will not charge you any usage if you view the here maps roads layer. You can select this at the bottom of the MapBrowser where you select the imagery type.
        • It is also possible to search and browser for locations when only viewing our Here maps street layer.
    • The MapBrowser consumes imagery when you pan the map, zoom in or out or search for a location, when viewing Nearmap imagery.
      • At times it will be more cost effective for you to search for an address rather than pan and search for a location.
    • The resolution your computer displays and the size of your monitor or web browser impacts the amount of Nearmap imagery that can be displayed at one time. This impacts the amount of usage you consume when searching a location or zooming in and out. Eg the more pixels you can fit into the web browser the more Nearmap imagery is downloaded and displayed.
    • We only start charging usage for requests higher than zoom 14. eg: zoom 15, 16, 17….
      • You can see what loom level you are looking at in the URL. For example the below URL is at zoom 13. https://apps.nearmap.com/maps/#/@41 .8842500,-87.6324500,13.00z,0d/V/20250917?locationMarker

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Kind regards,
    Brendan
